It's told that the best for Bang'Pae is Boon-Jook, Latin name "Phyllostachys nigra (Lodd.) Munro var. henonis (Bean) Stapf)," Genetically closest(0.269) are between Oh-Jook and Boon-Jook.

Following shows Boon-Jook [Phyllostachys nigra (Lodd.) Munro var. henonis (Bean) Stapf)] is the best species in mechanic properties ] among 3 species of Korean bambooes, WangDae, Boon-Jook and Maeng-Jook.

 

 

Remarks)

1. Phyllostachys bambusoides Siebold et Zuccarini

    = Wang-Dae

2) Phyllostachys nigra (Lodd.) Munro var. henonis (Bean) Stapf

    = Boon-Jook

3) Phyllostachys pubescens Mazel

   = Maeng-Jook

Both above are different species, the left seems Wang-Dae, the other seems Boon-Jook.

Korean likes to use Boon-Jook species for Bang'Pae.
